This is the initial step in allowing ath9k to register multiple virtual radios (wiphys). The goal of virtual radios is to allow the same radio to be shared for multiple virtual interfaces that may operate on different channels. The mac80211 virtual interface support is designed only for single channel operation and as such, it is not suitable for this type of use. Anyway, it can be used on top of the virtual radio concept, if desired (e.g., use two virtual radios to handle two channels and then add multiple mac80211 virtual interfaces on top of each virtual radio). The new struct ath_wiphy is now registered as the driver data structure for wiphy. This structure has a pointer to the shared (among virtual wiphys of the same physical radio) struct ath_softc data. The primary wiphy maintains the allocated memory for ath_softc. Secondary (virtual) wiphys will only allocate the new ath_wiphy structure. Registration of secondary wiphys is added in a separate patch. Signed-off-by:

The 802.11 header is only padded to 32-bit boundary when the frame has a non-zero length payload. In other words, control frames (e.g., ACK) do not have a padding and we should not try to remove it. This fixes monitor mode for short control frames. In addition, the hdrlen&3 use is described in more detail to make it easier to understand how the padding length is calculated. Signed-off-by:

We would get an oops on RX on -ENOMEM by passing NULL to the hardware on ath_rx_buf_link(). The oops would look something like this: ath_rx_tasklet+0x515/0x53b ath9k_tasklet+0x48 tasklet_action __do_softirq irq_exit do_IRQ RIP: ath_rx_buf_link+0x3a We correct this by handling the requeue directly on the ath_rx_tasklet() and trying to allocate an skb *prior* to sending up the last hardware processed skb. We should only tell the hardware its capable of DMA'ing to us only what we asked dev_alloc_skb(). Prior to this it is possible a large RX'd frame could have corrupted DMA data but for us but we were saved only because we were previously also pci_map_single()'ing the same large value. The issue prior to this though was we were unmapping a smaller amount which the prior DMA patch fixed. Signed-off-by:

This should fix the SW-IOMMU bounce buffer starvation seen ok kernel.org bugzilla 11811: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11811 Users on MacBook Pro 3.1/MacBook v2 would see something like: DMA: Out of SW-IOMMU space for 4224 bytes at device 0000:0b:00.0 Unfortunately its only easy to trigger on MacBook Pro 3.1/MacBook v2 so far so its difficult to debug (even with swiotlb=force). We were pci_unmap_single()'ing less bytes than what we called for with pci_map_single() and as such we were starving the swiotlb from its 64MB amount of bounce buffers. We remain consistent and now always use sc->rxbufsize for RX. While at it we update the beacon DMA maps as well to only use the data portion of the skb, previous to this we were pci_map_single()'ing more data for beaconing than what we tell the hardware it can use, therefore pushing more iotlb abuse. Still not sure why this is so easily triggerable on MacBook Pro 3.1, it may be the hardware configuration tends to use more memory > 3GB mark for DMA. Signed-off-by:

The HT handling has the following deficiencies, which I've (partially) fixed: * it always uses the AP info even if there is no AP, hence has no chance of working as an AP * it pretends to be HW config, but really is per-BSS * channel sanity checking is left to the drivers * it generally lets the driver control too much HT enabling is still wrong with this patch if you have more than one virtual STA mode interface, but that never happens currently. Once WDS, IBSS or AP/VLAN gets HT capabilities, it will also be wrong, see the comment in ieee80211_enable_ht(). Additionally, this fixes a number of bugs: * mac80211: ieee80211_set_disassoc doesn't notify the driver any more since the refactoring * iwl-agn-rs: always uses the HT capabilities from the wrong stuff mac80211 gives it rather than the actual peer STA * ath9k: a number of bugs resulting from the broken HT API I'm not entirely happy with putting the HT capabilities into struct ieee80211_sta as restricted to our own HT TX capabilities, but I see no cleaner solution for now. This enables Adaptive Noise Immunity (ANI) on ath9k. ANI is as algorithm designed to minimize the detrimental effects of time-varying interferences. This should help with throughput in noisy environments. To use ANI we re-enable the MIB interrupt. Since ANI works on a timer and updates the noise floor we take advantage of this and also report a non-static noise floor now to mac80211. Signed-off-by:

This patch addresses an issue with the locking order. ath_rx_flush_tid() uses spin_lock/unlock_bh when IRQs are disabled in sta_notify by mac80211. As node clean up is still pending with ath9k and this problematic portion of the code is expected to change anyway, thinking of a proper fix may not be worthwhile.
