As noted by Akinobu Mita in patch b1fceac2, alloc_bootmem and related functions never return NULL and always return a zeroed region of memory. Thus a NULL test or memset after calls to these functions is unnecessary. drivers/s390/char/raw3270.c | 11 +---------- drivers/s390/char/sclp_con.c | 2 -- 2 files changed, 1 insertion(+), 12 deletions(-) This was fixed using the following semantic patch. A wait_event call with a stack local wait_queue_head_t structure that is used to do the wake up for the wait_event is inherently racy. After the wait_event finished the wake_up call might not have completed yet. Remove the stack local wait_queue_head_t from raw3270_start_init and use the global raw3270_wait_queue instead. There are several s390 diagnose calls, which must be executed below the 2GB memory boundary. In order to enforce this, those diagnoses must be compiled into the kernel. Currently diag 14 can be called within the vmur kernel module from addresses above 2GB. This leads to specification exceptions. This patch moves diag10, diag14 and diag210 into the new diag.c file. The function shouldn't have existed in the first place (not MSS-aware). Introduce a new function ccw_device_get_id() that extracts the ccw_dev_id structure of a ccw device and convert all users of _ccw_device_get_device_number to ccw_device_get_id. Signed-off-by:

The initial i/o to a 3270 device is done using the static module variables raw3270_init_data and raw3270_init_request. If the 3270 device driver is built as a module and gets loaded above 2GB, the initial i/o will fail because these variables will get addresses > 2GB. To make it work the two variables are moved to struct raw3270 and the data structure is allocated with GFP_DMA. Signed-off-by:

Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
