      Replace license symbols with {{{ }}}-enclosed license blocks. · 6df609a9

      This commit is intended to makes the license status of Emulab and
      ProtoGENI source files more clear.  It replaces license symbols like
      "EMULAB-COPYRIGHT" and "GENIPUBLIC-COPYRIGHT" with {{{ }}}-delimited
      blocks that contain actual license statements.
      
      This change was driven by the fact that today, most people acquire and
      track Emulab and ProtoGENI sources via git.
      
      Before the Emulab source code was kept in git, the Flux Research Group
      at the University of Utah would roll distributions by making tar
      files.  As part of that process, the Flux Group would replace the
      license symbols in the source files with actual license statements.
      
      When the Flux Group moved to git, people outside of the group started
      to see the source files with the "unexpanded" symbols.  This meant
      that people acquired source files without actual license statements in
      them.  All the relevant files had Utah *copyright* statements in them,
      but without the expanded *license* statements, the licensing status of
      the source files was unclear.
      
      This commit is intended to clear up that confusion.
      
      Most Utah-copyrighted files in the Emulab source tree are distributed
      under the terms of the Affero GNU General Public License, version 3
      (AGPLv3).
      
      Most Utah-copyrighted files related to ProtoGENI are distributed under
      the terms of the GENI Public License, which is a BSD-like open-source
      license.
      
      Some Utah-copyrighted files in the Emulab source tree are distributed
      under the terms of the GNU Lesser General Public License, version 2.1
      (LGPL).

      We had a couple of different problems actually.
      
      * We allow users to insert html into many DB fields (say, a project or
        experiment description).
      
      * We did not sanitize that output when displaying back.
      
      * We did not sanitize initial page arguments that were reflected in the
        output (say, in a form).
      
      Since no one has the time to analyze every line of code, I took a couple of
      shortcuts. The first is that I changed the regex table to not allow any <>
      chars to go from the user into the DB. Brutal, but in fact there are only a
      couple of places where a user legitimately needs them. For example, a
      startup command that includes redirection. I handle those as special
      cases. As more come up, we can fix them.
      
      I did a quick pass through all of the forms, and made sure that we run
      htmlspecialchars on everything including initial form args. This was not
      too bad cause of the way all of the forms are structured, with a
      "formfields" array.
      
      I also removed a bunch of obsolete code and added an update script to
      actually remove them from the www directory.
      
      Lastly, I purged some XMLRPC code I did a long time ago in the Begin
      Experiment path. Less complexity, easier to grok and fix.

      * When generating an encrypted SSL certificate, derive an SSH public
        key from the private key and store in the pubkeys table for the
        user. Note that SSH version 2 RSA keys are actually just openssl RSA
        keys, and that ssh-keygen can extract an ssh compatible public key
        from it.
      
      * Change getsslcert.php3 to return the ssh private and public key when
        give the "ssh" boolean argument. This is mostly for the benefit of
        Flack; we probably need a better UI for the user to get this stuff. 
      
      * Remove the requirement that users must upload an SSH key to use
        protogeni, since we now create one for them when they create their
        encrypted SSL certificate.
      
      * Some cleanup; instead of looking at the comment field to determine
        what pubkeys are Emulab created (and should not be deleted), use new
        internal and nodelete flags.

      on the join/start project pages. At the moment this is conditional
      under the PROTOGENI flag, since users on non-protogeni sites rarely
      need an encrypted SSL certificate. The initial passphrase has to be
      store someplace since we cannot built the certificate until the user
      is approved, so put it into the users table, and delete when the first
      certificate is built (at approval).

      NewNewUser()/newuser would block and then unblock and get done; meanwhile the PHP
      thread went away so we never returned to call NewNewProject/mkproj.  Move the call
      on the newuser script from PHP into the back-end Perl newproj script for atomicity.
      
          www/newproject.php3 - When the project leader is a new user, pass two xml
              files to the newproj backend script, one describing the project and the
              second one (an optional) file describing the newuser.
      
          www/user_defs.php - Factor the xml-making part of NewNewUser into NewNewUserXML.
      
          www/project_defs.php - Remove the required $leader arg of NewNewProject.
              newproj may call newuser, which may generate the leader uid.
      
          backend/newproj.in - Call newuser with an optional 'newuser_xml' XML file.
      
          sql/database-fill.sql - Add 'projects','newuser_xml'.

        register_globals=1 to turn POST/GET/COOKIES arguments in local variables.
        This is known to be a terrible security risk, and we keep saying we are
        going to fix it, and now I am. In order to accomplish this on a
        transitional basis (since I don't want the entire web interface to stop
        working while I debug it), and because the code just needs the cleanup, I
        am doing it like this: Each page will sport new declarations at the top:

        The first token in each pair is the name of the global variable to
        set, and the second token is the type. So, for "experiment" we look at
        the URL for a pid/eid or exptidx, etc, sanity check them (safe for a
        DB query), and then try to find that experiment in the DB. If it maps
        to an experiment, set global variable $experiment to the object. Since
        its a required argument, produce an error if not supplied. Similar
        treatment for optional arguments, with the obvious difference.
      
        The goal is to have ALL argument processing in one place, consistent,
        and correct. I've found numerous places where we leak unchecked
        arguments into queries. It also cuts out a lot of duplicated code.
      
      * To make the above easier to deal with, I've been replacing lots of
        hardcoded URLS in the code of the form:
      
      	foo.php3?pid=$pid&eid=$eid ...
      
        with
      
              CreateURL("foo", $experiment)
      
        which creates and returns the neccessary url string, by looking at
        the type of its arguments (experiment, template, instance, etc.)
      
        Eventually plan to replace them all so that URL handling throughout
        the code is all defined in one place (all the new URL code is in
        url_defs.php).
      
      * I have cranked up error reporting to tell me anytime a variable is
        used before it is initialized, plus a bunch of other stuff that PHP
        deems improper. Think of it like -Wall ... and boy we get a lot of
        warnings.  A very large percentage of the diffs are to fix all these
        warnings.
      
        The warnings are currently going to /usr/testbed/log/php-errors.log,
        and I'll be adding a script to capture them each night and mail them
        to tbops. This file also gets errors (this will be a change for
        developers; rather then seeing errors and warnings dumped in the
        middle of web pages, they will go to this file instead).
      
      * Major refactoring of the code. More objects (nodes, images, osids).
        Moving tons of queries into the objects in the hopes of someday
        getting to a point where we can split the web interface onto a
        different server.  Lots of general cleanup.

      interface to the backend. There are new scripts that can be called
      from the command line:
      
      	newuser xmlfile
      	newproj xmlfile
      
      They both run from small xmlfiles that are generated by the web
      interface from the form data. I also moved user verification to the
      backend so that we do not have duplicated email functions, but that
      was a small change.
      
      Upon error, the xmlfile is saved and sent to tbops so that we can
      rerun the command by hand, rather then force user to fill out form
      again. I also do a better job of putting the form back up intact when
      there are internal errors.
      
      If the user provides an initial public key, that is put into the xml
      file as well and addpubkey is called from newuser instead of the web
      interface. A more general change to addpukey is that it is now
      *always* called as "nobody". This script was a morass of confusion
      cause of having to call it as nobody before the user actually
      exists. In fact, another of my ongoing projects is to reduce the
      number of scripts called as a particular user, but thats a story for
      another day. Anyway, the script is always called as nobody, but we
      pass along the implied user in the environment so that it can do
      permission checks.

      The major functional change in this revision is converting from user
      selected UIDs to system selected UIDs. This is controlled by the
      variable $USERSELECTUIDS in defs/defs.php3.in which is now set to
      zero, so system selected UIDs is the default.
      
      The algo for creating the uid is to take the email address, strip the
      @whatever from it, squeeze out dots and dashes and underlines, and
      make sure any +foo tokens are removed. Then make sure it is unique by
      taking the first 5 characters and then adding a 3 digit number,
      derived by checking the DB to see what exists.
      
      Since we will want to (more often) change the UID selected, there is a
      new admin only menu option on the Show User page. It calls the backend
      script to do the work (sbin/changeuid).
      
      The login page now defaults to storing and showing the email address
      for login, rather then the UID. It will still accept either one though
      (has for a long time).
      
      Along the way I also reorg'ed a number of pages to use the new user,
      group, and project classes and moved some common functionality into
      the class defs.
      
      Also changed the way addpubkey is called, to avoid some confusion.

      term archiving of firstclass objects like users, projects, and of
      course templates.
      
      * Projects, Users, and Groups are now uniquely identified inside the
        DB by a index value that will not be reused. If necessary, this
        could easily be a globally unique identifier, but without federation
        there is no reason to do that yet.
      
      * Currently, pid, gid, and uid still need to be locally unique until
        all of the changes are in place (which is going to take a fairly
        long time since the entire system operates in terms of those, except
        for the few places that I had to change to get the ball rolling).
      
      * We currently archive deleted users to the deleted_users table (their
        user_stats are kept forever since they are indexed by the new index
        column). Eventually do the same with projects (not sure about
        groups) but since we rarely if ever delete a project, there is no
        rush on this one.
      
      * At the same time, I have started a large reorg of the code, to move
        all of the user, group, project code into modules, both in php and
        perl, turning them into first class "objects" (as far as that goes
        in php and perl). Eventually, the number of query statements
        scattered around the code will be manageable, or so I hope.
      
      * Another related part of this reorg is to make it easier to move the
        new user/project/group code in the perl backend so that it can be
        made available via the xmlrpc interface (without duplication of the
        code).

      would be no big deal, except that we want to retain user_stats for
      deleted users, and rather then a deleted_user_stats table, I want to
      retain stats for deleted users in the user_stats table, since that
      is a more natural place for them.
      
      The main problem is that we use the login (uid) as the cross table
      reference slot all over the DB, which is fundamentally incorrect, if
      we want to be able reuse uids and still know what historical data
      refers to.
      
      So, I have taken a few baby steps towards weaning us off the uid, and
      towards permanently unique key for users, using the unix_uid integer
      for now, but probably something slightly different later.
      
      The user_stats is now indexed on this new key (called uid_idx in the
      users_stats table) instead of the plain uid.
      
      The unix_uid slot in the users table is no longer an auto_increment
      field, but instead uses the emulab_indicies table for the next
      available index.
