We can invoke this script via (at least) two different users and somebody
is going to get their permissions hurt.

Note that all the syslog() stuff is window dressing since we always invoke
this script with -d so output goes to STDERR. Plus we do not log the generic
Emulab syslog "local5.*" output anywhere.

Oh well, at least any failures will wind up in the output of the caller.
Hopefully that does not break anything.
